PRO Handball USA, with support from partners, has decided to move and host the first PRO Handball USA Mega Event in Europe this summer.
It will still feature 8 of the world’s best handball clubs and the US national teams, participating in the largest pre-season tournament ever.
“In recent months, we have been in extremely close dialogue with everyone involved in this groundbreaking project and based on the current unpredictable political environment between the USA and Europe, we have chosen to host the first event in Europe,” says Mads H. Winther, CEO of PRO Handball USA.
PRO Handball USA, despite changes to this year’s plans, remains fully dedicated to supporting the USA Team Handball in developing our fantastic sport in North America.
“Under normal circumstances, an international cultural and sports project like this would not be affected by the political climate, but we have assessed and must realize that the current situation means the risk of encountering unforeseen challenges that could negatively impact the project is too great,” says Mads H. Winther.
“We believe that our mission to spread handball in the USA can best be achieved by sticking to the execution of this year’s Mega Event with the clubs and partners who have dedicated themselves to the project, and we look forward to presenting the final plans in the near future,” concludes Mads H. Winther.
The plan for the development of handball in the USA still includes the ambition for two upcoming events in the USA in 2027 and 2028. These two events are intended to create increased awareness and interest in handball in the USA leading up to the Olympics in Los Angeles, where handball is expected to achieve its definitive popular breakthrough in the USA.
Shortly we will bring updated details for the upcoming 2026 Mega Event, which will still be held around week 32.
