USA vs. Canada becomes part of PRO Handball USA Mega Event next summer in USA
PRO Handball USA has its set sails to grow the sport of handball in America at an unprecedented scale, launching its first Mega Event from August 1–9, 2026, at Lee’s Family Forum in Henderson / Las Vegas.
The event will feature eight elite men’s and women’s club teams from Europe and Asia, competing in what promises to be the most ambitious pre-season training and tournament showcase ever staged globally.
In addition to international club play, PRO Handball USA is proud to announce that, through collaboration with the USA Team Handball Federation and the Canadian Team Handball Federation, the 2026 Pan American Games Qualifiers will also be hosted as part of the Mega Event.
These crucial matches will determine qualification for the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
Women’s Qualifiers August 5th & 8th
Men’s Qualifiers August 6th & 9th
Alexis Bertrand, President, Canadian Team Handball Federation:
“With this huge event taking place in North America in August 2026, it’s a great opportunity for both Canada and the USA to raise awareness of the game of handball and take part in something truly special. When we were approached by Pro Handball USA and USA Team Handball, it was an easy choice. We gain an extended stay in a world-class setting, the chance to train alongside top international clubs, and the opportunity to play crucial Pan American qualifying games in the biggest possible environment.
Yes, we’re giving up some of our home advantage, but the benefits far outweigh it. We’re also pleased to have secured the option to host the next qualifiers in 2030.”
Michael King, CEO, USA Team Handball Federation:
“These games are a critical part of the Olympic qualifying pathway every four years, and we’re pleased they’ll take place in a setting that supports our athletes and staff with great quality, and one that can only raise both the visibility and the standard of competition. We’re grateful to the Canadian Federation for agreeing to a format where all four matches are hosted in the United States, and to Pro Handball USA and its CEO, Mads Hyllested Winther, for the great and substantial work of building a broader platform that brings our teams in as a feature—allowing our two nations to train and compete alongside the world’s best.”
Mads Hyllested Winther, CEO, Pro Handball USA:
“When we learned that the Pan American qualifiers were set for 2026, we immediately knew their importance—and wanted to host them as part of our Mega Event. This is a first-class opportunity for both the USA and Canada, helping grow the sport on a truly global stage.
I want to thank both federations, their coaches, and staff for prioritizing the greater good, as well as NACHC and IHF for their support and shared vision. North America deserves this spotlight, and with this step, the bar has been raised.”
